Cultural Cambodia

Our ‘Cultural Cambodia’ tour is a wonderful blend of the best that Cambodia has to offer. Perfect at any time of the year, but even better during the green season for those who prefer to skip the beach and instead spend time unearthing more of the country’s secrets, such as Oudong and Battambang.

Get away from the crowds and immerse yourself in traditional Cambodia life with a prolonged stay in Cambodia’s second city Battambang, giving you the opportunity to experience real day-to-day life. You will enjoy the awe-inspiring Banan Temple, Sampou Mountain and the really fun bamboo train ride.

The adventure doesn’t stop here, as you will also explore Cambodia’s historical capital of Oudong and the vibrant, modern capital city, Phnom Penh. This is the perfect way to whet your appetite before venturing to the main archaeological site in Siem Reap and being wowed by the sheer size of the vast temple complexes and the crowning glory of Angkor Wat.

This adventure will leave you wanting more, and we are sure to see you again to discover more of this incredible country.

Day 2: Phnom Penh (Cyclo Tour, S21 & River Cruise)

Enjoy a Phnom Penh cyclo tour in the morning seeing the capital’s key sites, such as Wat Phnom, the National Library, the Central Market, the National Museum, Independence Monument and, of course, the Royal Palace as well as Silver Pagoda. You will be dropped by the river to enjoy lunch before visiting the infamous Tuol Sleng museum (S-21), where you can learn about the turbulent recent history of Cambodia. For the evening you will enjoy a dinner cruise along the Mighty Mekong River, which is a perfect way to end any day in Cambodia.
Overnight in Phnom Penh (Meals: B/_/D)

Day 3: Phnom Penh to Battambang

Today you will leave Cambodia’s capital behind and start the 290km journey North to Battambang. Along the way you will pause for a while at Oudong, which was the home of the royal capital between the 17th and 19th centuries. Once here you have time to find that perfect picture from either the top of the hill or from across the nearby fields with Oudong as the back drop. You then continue your journey stopping for lunch in Kampong Chhnang before arriving in Battambang.
Overnight in Battambang (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 4: Battambang (Wat Banan Temple & Sampou Mountain)

Starting early, today is all about discovering Battambang and its surroundings. Starting with the hill top temple of Wat (Phnom) Banan, a temple perched at the top of a small mountain overlooking the Sangkar River. After taking some time to explore the views you continue to Crocodile mountain or Phnom Sampheou, home to the killing caves of the Khmer Rouge as well as a steady stream of thousands of bats, which leave the cave at sundown each day.
Overnight in Battambang (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 5: Battambang (Bamboo Train & Bat Cave)

Today you will be taken to the starting point of the popular Bamboo train. This improvised vehicle made from bamboo rides roughly 40km through the countryside of Battambang pausing at local villages along the way. This is a great way to see the real country, and also experience how some locals travel from destination to destination. You then continue to the bat cave, which boasts impressive views of the surrounding areas.
Overnight in Battambang (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 6: Battambang to Siem Reap

Your Cultural journey continues today as you travel the 2.5-hour journey to Siem Reap, Cambodia’s heart and the gateway to the enigmatic Angkor Temples. You will arrive in Siem Reap for a late lunch, which you can either enjoy at your hotel or in town. The afternoon is then free for you to wander around the town, discover the Royal Gardens or go shopping at Siem Reap’s night markets.
Overnight in Siem Reap (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 7: Siem Reap (Day In a Life Community Tour)

Today you will join a local family and spend a few hours in their shoes. Help with rice harvesting, planting, weaving thatch or driving an ox cart. These activities depend on the season and the family’s routine on any given day. This project directly helps all villagers in providing sustainable income year-round. It is also a perfect opportunity to capture some incredible photographs and memories.
Overnight in Siem Reap (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 8: Siem Reap (Floating Village & Circus)

This morning you visit Kampong Phluk, which is a perfect example of one of the many communities living in the floating villages of Cambodia. Within the community you pass schools and houses standing on 8 to 10m high stilts, as well as fish farms and an island pagoda. You will also visit the flooded forest, home to some of Cambodia’s water-bird species, before a brief Tonle Sap boat tour to witness the daily life of these people. For the evening you visit the fabulous Cambodian circus, a mixture of acrobatics, music, dance and culture.
Overnight in Siem Reap (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 9: Siem Reap (Angkor Temple Tour)

The Angkor temples are a magnificent sight! While the Cambodian temples aren’t in short supply, the Angkor temples are in a league of their own. Angkor Wat temple is by far the most famous and often compared to sites, such as Machu Picchu (Peru) and Petra (Jordan). Your Cambodia tour guide will be on hand to guide you through these wonderful Angkor temples, which should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Overnight in Siem Reap (Meals: B/_/_)

Day 10: Siem Reap (Free Day)
