These boat cruises can also be done in reverse, such as starting in Luang Prabang and finishing in Chiang Rai in accordance to the 3 day Mekong cruise or from Chiang Saen and finishing in Vientiane on our 11 day Mekong boat trip.

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Chiang Rai and then transferred by road up to the highlands of Thailand. On arrival, you will watch a presentation about the Hmong and Lahu tribes that live in the area as well as getting to explore some traditional local villages. After a local lunch taken overlooking the Mekong river you will get the opportunity to express yourself further by engaging with the Hmong people further, by either trying your hand at making a batik handkerchief with the ladies or learning how to set animal traps with the men. The day finishes with a traditional dance performance onboard.

Day 2
Pakbeng
Chiang Rai to Huay Xai & Pakbeng
Today you will have to rise early for a morning transfer to the Thai / Laos border crossing at Huay Xai. After you have carried out the necessary border procedures, you will be picked up and transferred to your cruise boat, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch as you set sail. In the afternoon you will pause at a traditional Laotian village, where you can get your first insight into the Lao way of life. From here you re-embark your boat and continue to Pakbeng.

Luang Prabang
Pakbeng to Luang Prabang
This morning, after breakfast at the lodge, you board the cruise boat one last time for your adventure on the water which ends in Luang Prabang. Along the way you will stop twice; once at a traditional Laos village of Baw, where you will observe how whiskey is made. And the second stop at the magical and mysterious Pak Ou Caves, which are famous for the thousands of Buddha statues that are found inside. Your cruise then ends in the picturesque town of Luang Prabang, where you can continue your journey with us from here.
