Myanmar Uncovered
Our ‘Myanmar Uncovered’ tour of the country is a shorter tour that takes in the country’s main sites, with an emphasis on Mandalay and Bagan in the heart of the golden triangle in the centre of Myanmar as well as the former capital of Yangon, where you start and end your travelling experience.
Starting in the former capital Yangon (Rangoon) you will visit the city’s main sites including what is often called the Golden Pagoda of Schwedagon, which is the heart and soul of the country for so many Burmese people. From here you take a flight to Mandalay, where you will take a day trip out of the city to explore Sagaing, one of the most important religious and monastic centres in the country. Before taking a boat trip to discover Ava the country’s last royal capital. You then continue to Amarapura and visit the monastery of Mahagandaryone, before ending the day by watching the sunset at the famous U Bein Bridge, which is 1200 metres long, stretching across the Taungthaman Lake and is the longest teak bridge in the world.
Travelling on to Bagan you will enjoy a relaxing boat trip down the Irrawaddy river to Kyauk Gu U Min, which is home to a cave filled with intricate sandstone carving and a gigantic figure of Buddha. You then also get a full day discovering some of the world’s most beautiful temples and pagodas as you visit as many of Bagan’s most important sites as time allows. Another day in Bagan allows you to take another trip out of the city to venture over the river to Mt. Popa, which is also known as the ‘Mountain of Spirits’.
The last leg of your holiday to Myanmar takes you back to Yangon, where you will enjoy an eye-opening walking tour of the city. You will see many wonderful examples of British colonialism and the fabulous architecture, that if you close your eyes, it could put you back to 1950’s London. The city is a delight and if time allows, we recommend you get your fortune told as to see what the future holds.
